Tips and Tricks- Ecosia

Ecosia is an incredible site that works exactly the same as google but the money made from it goes to plant trees. This is an absolutely free way to do something great for the earth. All you have to do is Search Ecosia or download the app. For every 45 searches, they plant 1 tree. They have currently planted (as of the time this is posted) over 93 million trees! Also, their servers run on 100% renewable energy. Every search request removes 1kg of CO2 from the atmosphere. So next time you search something make sure to open up Ecosia!

Tips And Tricks- Check Your Products!

Many people don’t think about the journey their shampoo or hand cream took before it ended up on supermarket shelves, but it’s definitely something to consider. While we’re all stuck inside it’s the perfect time to check your bathroom for products that use animal testing. If your product doesn’t have a cruelty free symbol, it was probably tested on an animal, which more often than not doesn’t end well. It’s estimated that over 100 million animals die each year from these cruel and surprisingly not illegal practices. Every time you buy a product that uses animal testing, you’re casting your vote towards the mistreatment of countless animals. So please, the next time you're at the store, check for one of these symbols.

Tips and tricks- Turn the Lights off

Image from unsplash.com
This one may sound simple and you have probably heard it a lot but is very important. This one is super easy and absolutely free! In fact, you will save money on electricity bills. Just turn off the lights before leaving your room or house. It also extends the life of your light bulbs so you will not have to purchase as many. Turning your lights off reduces greenhouse gases and saves energy. So next time you leave a room make sure to turn your lights off.

Tips and Tricks- Shop Second Hand

By shopping second hand, less carbon is being entered into the atmosphere, counteracting climate change. Less carbon is being emitted into the atmosphere because factories don't have to produce as much clothing since they have less of a demand. With fast fashion industries growing there is more and more waste going to landfills. It can be embarrassing to look at all the trash and know that some of it is yours. But by buying second hand you will know that you are not supporting the fast fashion industries, and you are being eco-friendly. Some good second-hand stores are ThredupSwap.com, and shopgoodwill.com. if your not looking for clothes thrift stores are a great place to go. Happy shopping!

"If you really think the economy is more important than the environment, try holding your breath whilst you count your money."

-Dr. Guy McPherson

"There is no such thing as "away." When we throw anything away it must go somewhere."

-Annie Leonard

Tips and Tricks-Library

Why you should use libraries: Along with being free, a library is a great place to borrow a book, and be eco-friendly at the same time! Because libraries reuse books, many individuals can borrow and enjoy the same book, instead of each person buying their own copy that they might only read once. Make sure that if you own books that you are not reading, you let friends and family borrow them, or sell/donate them. That way someone else can enjoy the books as well! You can also ditch paper copy’s entirely and read an e-book or listen to an audiobook. All you have to do is download an app, hook it up to your library card, and dive into the world of literature.

EMC Introduction

EMC (Environmental Movement Club) is a non-profit organization that raises awareness about subjects such as pollution, climate change, sea level rising, endangered animals, deforestation, and much, much more. We also raise money that goes to help other organizations that help make the earth cleaner and healthier. We are a group of middle school students that noticed litter on the streets and wanted to help. It just started with two of us but has now grown to a little over ten members, though we are slowly gaining more. Unfortunately, we will not be able to post regularly because we all go to school during the day. Also, we are working on an enormous project which will also mess with our posting schedule. But, when we do post, this is our schedule:
- on Mondays, we will post Meatless Meals
- on Wednesdays, we will post Tips and Tricks to Help the Earth
- on Fridays, we will post Quotes
- on Saturday we will post Miscellaneous
- on Sunday we will post EMC art (This will be on a monthly basis, not on a weekly basis unlike the other days)
